YAHOO! HQ

Reimagining an Early Silicon Valley Workplace Model

Before open office engineering workspaces were synonymous with Silicon Valley, Yahoo! recognized that the physical environment that Jerry Yang purpose built nearly 20 years earlier was hindering collaboration and agile working and they organized a massive restructuring plan to coincide with an entirely new workplace strategy that would break down the full height cubicles, densify open office by more than 35%, and introduce more formal and informal conferencing and all-hands spaces.

Delivering a New Workplace Strategy on a Limited Budget

Enter project Mojo. On a limited budget we reconfigured open office areas, renovated cooking and dining areas, improved conference room technology, and constructed a multi-purpose all-hands space in the main dining hall that hosted Marissa Mayer every Friday in 4K with simultaneous broadcasting to all offices.

Phased Construction Within Fully Occupied Spaces

The entire project was completed in occupied spaces, in dozens of phases, often with work in the most congested areas happening after hours or during holiday breaks. Work also included over 2,500 employee box boxes.
